Education Program

Girls’ Education program works on improving lives and providing opportunities for girls and women through increased participation in formal and alternative education systems.

The program builds on innovative pilot projects and strategic partnerships developed by RWIDF over the last decade. RWIDF has worked closely with government-run schools, which the vast majority of side-lined students attend. We place special focus on older girls who have either dropped out or have never been enrolled and thus require a planned strategy so that they can catch up with other students. We encourage government to work on strategies, which would be useful in addressing the needs of these girls.

RWIDF’s Girls’ Training Programme (GTP) has been in operation for over 10 years and plays a vital role in achieving RWIDF’s long term goal of reaching out to 1 million women, girls, and other marginalised people to enhance their abilities to exercise greater choice in personal and public spheres by 2020. GTP seeks to improve opportunities for girls and women through their increased participation in formal and alternative education systems.

Girl’s Training Program builds upon innovative pilot projects and strategic partnerships that have made important improvements in access to and quality of education for girls, especially among poor, marginalised and vulnerable girls. Realising that there are multi tiered bottlenecks around issues of access, availability and quality of education, the programme, in partnership with the partners, addresses the problems on many levels, including both within the formal school system and though a number of alternative approaches to schooling.
